Vanier Park is a cynosure of all eyes; it is located within the neighborhood of Kitsilano, British Columbia in Canada. It is an adorable sight. It is also the home to the famous museum of Vancouver, the H.R. Macmillan Space Center, the renowned Vancouver Maritime Museum, and the archives of the city of Vancouver.

With the grace and elegance of its position, Vanier Park offers the most amazing views of Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver. Experience the peaceful pond waters, a massive pathway, and the open fields that contribute extra features to the amazing waterfront. There is also a ramp used to launch small crafts. The civic center within the park is the Planetarium, the Vancouver Museum and the archives of the Vancouver city; these are all located within the most important part of the park.

History

This incredible park used to be a depot for the Royal Canadian Air Force; it was relinquished by the government to the park board on the 28th day of October 1966. The park is therefore named after the Governor General of Canada who was on sit at a time, his name was George Vanier. The park’s official opening ceremony was held on the 30th day of May 1967. The $1.5m donated by H.R. Macmillan was the force of energy that propelled the opening of the Planetarium and the museum complex which was officially opened in the year 1968.

  • You could also visit the park during summer; between June and September to see the play performed at the Shakespeare Festival Bard live on the Vanier park beach.

Getting to Vanier Park is very simple; it is situated at 1000 Chestnut Street. If you have a car, there is parking space near the museum which you have to pay a small fee for.
